Support the game of soccer by becoming a referee! This is a rewarding way to participate and assist others to play this great game. Opportunities are available for referees beginning at age 13. The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) establishes the training standards for soccer referees in the US. The entry level for new Referees for 2024 will be “Grassroots” (for Rec, Challenge, Travel and Adult Leagues).
To referee matches for Augusta United you must successfully complete the training to become certified with USSF as a new Grassroots Referee. Registration is at the State Referee Program website at www.vadcsoccerref.com. We have scheduled New Referee certification clinics locally (see below) but more are also offered around the state. To see all classes around the state, go to the State Referee Program website at www.vadcsoccerref.com and click on “BECOME A REFEREE” at the top of the page. Note: clinics in Charlottesville, Augusta or Richmond will be listed on the state website in the CENTRAL area, while clinics in Orange will be listed in the NORTH area, and clinics in Roanoke or Lynchburg are in the WEST area.
ALL NEW REFEREE CLINICS require completion of online modules in advance of the in person “classroom” and “field” clinic sessions. The online training for new youth referees takes about 5-1/2 hours and the system has some deadlines. If you are uncertain whether you can finish the online portion before the deadline, DO NOT PANIC. Go ahead and register for the earliest classroom session that you can make. If you have problems or questions, please contact me.
